Bangor

[Ban-gur]

Bangor - Town - Population (1991) 71,000. Situated in the North Down District of County Down, which is in the east of  Northern ireland on the shore of Belfast lough.
A seaside town with some light industry, now mainly a yachting centre.
The Elizabethan Bangor Castle is still in the town along with the remains of Bangor Abbey, founded around c.555 by Saint Comgall, destroyed by the Danes in the 9th century and rebuilt in 1120.
Bangor is a nice little town to live in, there are a lot of Bars, Restaurants and a couple of nightclubs, plenty of shops and a seafront marina which serves the yachting community. The town also has a lot of events all year round organised by the local council.

The Seafront is undergoing a major facelift very soon with hopefully a large retail and entertainment centre being built. Bangor is also a market town, with a market each Wednesday. There are many nice places to visit in and around Bangor a few beaches and country parks and coastal walks which stretch the length of the coastline of North Down.

One of our favourite places in Bangor is Ward Park, where you can feed the Ducks, see the Rabbits, Peacocks and lots of Caged Birds, there are also Bowling Greens a Putting Green and Swings and Slides for Children. Another favourite is Pickie family fun park which has a Boating Pond with large Pedal Boats shaped as Swans, a ride on Mini Train and an Adventure Playground, Mini-Karts and a good Cafe.
